Piano and voice โ structured, purposeful, and built from the ground up to develop real musical independence.
Piano
For ages 7 and up. Rick's approach focuses on three things that traditional method books often postpone: technique from the very first lesson, music theory introduced naturally from the start, and the ability to hear a melody and find it on the keyboard โ a skill that requires deliberate practice.
As a result, every piano lesson is built around three areas of development: technique, reading, and ear training. These three skills are taught together from the very beginning, helping students progress more quickly and become confident, independent musicians.
Build physical confidence at the keyboard through scales, coordination exercises, and proper hand position.
Learn to recognize patterns, structure, and musical ideas โ not just individual notes.
Learn to hear melodies, find them on the keyboard, and eventually add chords from memory.
Voice
For ages 10 and up. Rick's degree is in vocal music education, and he spent several years teaching junior high and high school vocal music. Voice lessons focus on technique first โ breath support, register coordination, and healthy production across your full range.
Appoggio technique from the start โ the same foundational breath support used in classical training, applied across all genres. Students learn to sing from support, not pressure.
Chest voice, head voice, and the mixed middle are developed through targeted exercises designed to smooth transitions and build consistency. Students learn to navigate their full range with confidence and control.
Songs are selected to support each student's current stage of development. Students work on music that builds specific skills while also exploring repertoire they enjoy, creating a balance between technical growth and personal expression.
Structure
Standard for most students. Piano lessons follow the three-block structure (technique / book work / ear training). Voice lessons are similarly structured around warmup, technique, and repertoire work.
Available for voice students who want more time to work through advanced vocal concepts, technique, and repertoire in a single session.
Informal performances in place of formal recitals. When a student is ready, family and friends can be invited to a short in-studio performance during lesson time. Participation is completely optional โ there is never any pressure to perform.
Next Step
The first lesson is always free โ a 20-minute informal session, no charge, no commitment. Just a chance to see if it's a good fit.
